SWF is a one-of-a-kind cleaning job. The whole town was planned and built between the late 70s and 90s in the so-called Essex Vernacular style — pitched roofs, dormer windows, weatherboarding, brick-and-timber frontages designed to look like a traditional Essex village. It's beautiful when it's looked after. It also has very specific cleaning requirements that most general window cleaners get wrong.
The weatherboarding is the big one: it's painted timber, often around dormers and gable ends, and it can't be pressure-washed — the water blasts paint off and forces moisture into the boards. We use low-pressure detergent rinse with a soft-bristle pad, which lifts mildew and bird dirt without touching the paintwork. Same approach on the painted brickwork. Roof tiles in SWF are mostly slate-look concrete, which biocides cleanly. Plenty of UPVC fascias too — they yellow with age but bring back to white with a specialist clean, not a pressure wash.
